MCBlue is one of those bands where every Show is unique unto itself. Usually there are 3 Regular members and floating 4ths and 5ths, ( Jerry H. , Tommy B. , Steve P. , Ted Mc. , Laura H. , Jim L. , Don R. Meyer, Scarr, Dusty Bob, etc. ) drawn from a pool of a dozen or so hired-guns.
I am among those who from time to time, get the call.
The Regulars are usually Dave Gilligan on Acoustic Guitar, Harmonica and Vocals.
Mike Fair plays Electric Guitar and shares a large portion of the Lead Vocals.
Jay Sofranec is the Bassist and often times he chimes in on some Harmonies. If you have read the Flock Bio-Page, you already know how I feel about Jay’s Musical prowess.
Whoever gets invited to climb on board this Musical Time Machine is always filled with the anticipation of a good time. You get to go on these Musical Sojourns where due to the depth of these men’s combined Musical Experiences, you can surf these huge Sonic waves.
With floating 4ths and 5ths, the listener is given a different take on some of the best songs of the last couple hundred years. Even though most of their fare is Folk Rock at its best, the Blues could show up between an old Country Song and an even older Irish Tune.
I do recommend you find out if Mike Fair is going to be on board, if you are going to see MCBlue for the first time. No offense to any of the great Players who might be called upon to fill his shoes. Mike is a Cincinnati Icon. He is known in many circles due to his participation in so many of the Tri-State’s Musical Enterprises (currently Wojo, the Blue Ravens, the Oinks and of note lately, Mike Fair and the Adventure Seekers). And because he, Dave and Jay have created so much Music together over the years, their interaction is almost like breathing.
There is no struggle to find a niche, when the suit fits so well. |
